Lowry Hill MPLS Lakes

Lowry Hill MPLS Lakes

A highly sought‑after place to live in the Twin Cities.

Welcome to Lowry Hill

Lowry Hill is one of Minneapolis’s most historic and prestigious neighborhoods, located just west of downtown in the Calhoun‑Isles community. Renowned for its elegant, architecturally rich streetscape of early 20th‑century homes, leafy boulevards, and cultural landmarks like the Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, the area combines urban sophistication with access to outdoor recreation around Lake of the Isles and the Chain of Lakes park system. Its tranquil residential character and proximity to dining, arts, and city parks make it a highly sought‑after place to live in the Twin Cities.

The neighborhood’s history begins in the mid‑19th century when the elevated, forested land that now forms Lowry Hill was rural and sparsely settled. It was named after Thomas Lowry, a key figure in Minneapolis’s streetcar development, who platted much of the area in the late 1860s, helping establish it as an exclusive residential enclave for the city’s wealthier families. Residential development boomed in the 1890s and early 1900s with grand homes set on spacious lots, and despite changes over time, Lowry Hill has retained much of its historic character and status as one of Minneapolis’s most desirable neighborhoods.
